Deanna Mustain

Deanna Mustain, a native of Boston, began playing the viola at the age of four. She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Stanford University, where she studied viola with Lesley Robertson of the St. Lawrence String Quartet and completed a B.S. in Organizational Design & Engineering and a M.S. in Management Science & Engineering. During her time at Stanford, she was also a student of Jodi Levitz and Paul Hersh at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She went on to complete a Graduate Diploma with Kim Kashkashian at the New England Conservatory of Music.

While in graduate school, Deanna won a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Symphony, where she played for the 2018-2019 season and has continued to play as a regular substitute. She has also performed with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, East Coast Chamber Orchestra, and Sejong Soloists, and has been participating in the Sun Valley Music Festival since 2019. Deanna enjoys collaborating as a chamber musician and has performed with the Boston Chamber Music Society, the Borromeo String Quartet, the St. Lawrence String Quartet, and Music for Food, a musician-led initiative for local hunger relief.

When not playing viola, Deanna can be found working on the product team at Duolingo, training for her next half marathon, or exploring local hiking trails with her husband Kyle and dog Harper.
