I understand that regular attendance is important to the success of the program and my individual success as a musician. All programs meet at Wood River Middle School. Melodia meets Monday and Wednesday 7:15 - 8:15 AM in the choir room. D'Boyz meets TBD in the choir room.

Policies and Expectations: Melodia and D’Boyz

General Considerations and Attendance Policy

Being part of the Melodia or D’Boyz Team requires a firm commitment on behalf of the student to attend rehearsals regularly. We only meet once or twice per week, so it is critical that we have good attendance and that everyone is on task and prepared for rehearsal. Students with excessive absences get behind and this in turn slows the progress of the group as a whole. If you choose to commit to the program, it is expected that you will commit to attending weekly rehearsals and concerts and that you will commit to learning the music. Students with 2 or more absences per session may be asked to re-evaluate their commitment to the program. If you cannot attend class for any reason, please let us know in advance. If you are sick, please do not come to rehearsal, but contact us so we know why you weren’t there!

Rehearsal Behavior

It is important that rehearsals are productive therefore, we insist on excellent behavior in class. Students are expected to be attentive and ready to work for the entire rehearsal. Parents, students and instructors are all making a commitment to the Melodia or D’Boyz Team and we want everyone to have the best experience possible! We want students to learn their parts to the best of their ability and self- discipline and self-control are essential.

Expectations include:

Arrive on time and ready to sing.

You will be assigned a music binder to hold your music and a pencil. This will stay in the classroom. Please treat it with respect! Mark music only as asked by your director. We often reuse binders and music so please do not draw on them, rip, or otherwise destroy them!

Be prepared for rehearsal. Learn your part to the best of your ability by practicing it regularly.

Save your chewing gum and any other food for another time.

Leave reading materials, cell phones and other electronic devices turned off and in your backpack.

Show respect for the director and accompanist at all times. Mark your music as he/she directs.

Always be attentive at rehearsals. This will ensure the time is used effectively and the rehearsal is productive.

Show respect for other singers. Treat others as you would want to be treated if you were asked to sing a passage in front of everyone.

Be respectful of the rehearsal facilities and other people in the building. Running or disruptive behavior in the hallways and classrooms before or after rehearsal will not be tolerated.

Your director will release you promptly at 8:15 so you have time to get to your first class. Being late for your class is not acceptable.

Performances: Melodia and D’Boyz are Performing Arts programs, students will be expected to attend scheduled concerts. If you are aware of a conflict with a concert date, please let us know as far in advance as possible! A list of our main concerts follows, there may be other performances in the community throughout the year. We will let you know about those events as soon as they are booked. All performances to take place 7:00 PM at the WRHS Performing Arts Theater at the Community Campus.

Final Concert May 13, 2026 Students choosing not to abide by the above guidelines will be given one verbal warning; a second transgression will be followed up by a phone call to their parents. If unacceptable behavior continues, the student will be asked to leave the program and their continued participation in all aspects of the Music Institute, including private lessons, will be evaluated by the Education Director.

Liability release and consent: This application must be signed by a parent or guardian.

In consideration for participation in the Sun Valley Music Festival Music Institute, on behalf of my child or ward do hereby release, forever discharge and agree to hold harmless the Sun Valley Music Festival and the directors thereof from any and all liability, claims or demands for personal injury, sickness or death, as well as property damage and expenses, of any nature whatsoever which may be incurred by the undersigned child-participants that occur while said child is participating in the above-described activity. Furthermore, I, on behalf of my child-participant here-by assume all risk of personal injury, sickness, death, damage and expense as a result of participation in all activities involved therein. The undersigned further hereby agrees to hold harmless and indemnify the Sun Valley Music Festival, its directors, employees and agents, for any liability sustained by said organizations as the result of the negligent, willful or intentional acts of said participant, including expenses incurred attendant thereto. I am the parent or legal guardian of this participant and hereby grant my permission for him to participate fully in the above-described activities, and hereby authorize medical treatment, including but not in limitation to emergency surgery or medical treatment, and assume the responsibility of all medical bills, if any. Further, should it be necessary for the participant to return home due to medical reasons, disciplinary action of otherwise, I hereby assume all transportation costs.

SOM Introductory Lesson Package Student Application

The introductory lesson packages offer students a short-term opportunity to try the Music Institute’s Private Lesson Program. Lessons are taught by Music Institute faculty at a time that is convenient for you. After you complete the lessons in the package and you decide you would like to continue, we will discuss option for further study in our Comprehensive Program.

(The Music Institute does not offer classes in guitar, recorder, or ukulele.)

This lesson package is for students in grades 6 and up.

Students should have some experience on their instrument (i.e. are in their school band, orchestra or choir or have completed one of the Music Institutes group classes.)

Students who want to learn to play a string instrument should consider Elementary Strings Program for grades 4-5. (click here to access the Elementary Strings Program application.)

Group piano class is a two hour per week commitment and is intended for beginning students in grades 3-6.

Classes meet on Saturday for one hour at the Community Campus in Hailey.

Students participate in an online music theory class taught by Music Institute faculty during the week.

Beginners with no experience are welcome.

When students complete the 12-week session they may continue in the group piano theory class until they complete the beginning piano curriculum (usually 12-18 months) at which time they can transition to individual lessons.

The Sun Valley Music Festival Music Institute makes every effort to keep music education affordable and accessible to all. The Music Institute Financial Aid program is designed specifically for the purpose of assisting individuals and families who demonstrate need. A student can apply for financial aid prior to the start of a semester. Applications may be submitted online or received by email or mail to the Music Institute office by the deadline, (generally 2 weeks before the start of the semester) and must be legibly printed in ink or typed and signed by a parent or guardian.
