Donor Engagement Officer

The Donor Engagement Officer is responsible for leading donor cultivation, engagement, stewardship, and retention at the Sun Valley Music Festival. The Music Festival follows the “Relationshift” approach to fundraising (see the book by Michael Bassoff and Steve Chandler), embracing the values of gratitude and humility, building relationships with audience and donors, and offering them experiences which inspire and delight them, in support of their values. The Officer will dual-report to the Executive Director and the Development Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and introduce new individuals, couples, and families to the Music Festival
  • Build personal relationships with donors and engage them in their areas of interest
  • Create and help manage multiple donor portfolios for Board members
  • Organize and manage donor cultivation and engagement events
  • Support existing development processes including the Annual Appeal and in-season donor events
  • Collaborate with Festival staff on major processes and projects throughout the year

Major Qualifications

  • Experience in fundraising, preferably in education or the arts
  • Exceptional social skills in meeting new people and building relationships
  • Proactive, friendly, team-oriented, and a leader
  • Familiarity with wealth management and the workings of individual foundations
  • Superior time management and a willingness to put in very long hours during the Festival’s concert seasons (30+ consecutive days and nights of work is normal during the Summer Season)

  • Season-driven role; likely not full-time, at least initially
  • (Re)location to the Wood River Valley may not be mandatory; however, a strong personal presence during “active” periods is essential, including the Festival’s Winter and Summer Season
