Principal Horn, Houston Symphony Orchestra

 

Hailed as “one of the superstars of today’s international brass scene,” horn virtuoso Bill VerMeulen has been Principal Horn of the Houston Symphony since 1990, and maintains a busy schedule as a soloist and chamber musician. He spends his summers as Principal Horn with the Sun Valley Summer Symphony. In addition, he has performed as guest Principal Horn of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cincinnati Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Mr. VerMeulen has participated as a performer and on faculty with numerous music festivals, including Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Aspen, Joshua Bell and Friends, and Tanglewood.

He is Professor of Horn at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. He trained at Northwestern University and at the Interlochen Arts Academy. He performs on horns custom made by Keith Berg of Canada and Engelbert Schmid of Germany.
