{"id":12655,"date":"2023-04-12T08:10:36","date_gmt":"2023-04-12T14:10:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.svmusicfestival.org\/staging\/?post_type=people&#038;p=12655"},"modified":"2024-01-16T18:09:20","modified_gmt":"2024-01-17T01:09:20","slug":"stephanie-childress","status":"publish","type":"people","link":"https:\/\/www.svmusicfestival.org\/staging\/people\/stephanie-childress\/","title":{"rendered":"Stephanie Childress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Conductor Stephanie Childress is making her mark as a musician of remarkable skill who has been likened to \u201cother notable young conductors of the past such as Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Sir Simon Rattle\u201d (<em>Varsity<\/em>). Her musicianship has led to engagements with major symphony orchestras and opera houses across the international stage.<\/p>\n<p>Last season, she concluded her role as Assistant Conductor of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. <em>Musical America<\/em> named her \u201cArtist of the Month\u201d this past October, and she was also recently appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. She began the 2023\/24 season making her Hamburg Staatsoper debut in<em>\u00a0Die Entf\u00fchrung aus dem Serail\u00a0<\/em>and returning to Glyndebourne\u2019s autumn season for\u00a0<em>Don Giovanni. <\/em>In the 2023\/24 season she will also make her conducting debut with Detroit Opera in Missy Mazzoli\u2018s\u00a0<em>Breaking the Waves<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Childress won 2nd prize in the 2020 La Maestra Competition for international women conductors and studied music at St. John\u2019s College in Cambridge.
