SUMMARY:Upbeat with Alasdair: Why Brahms?
DESCRIPTION:Admission is free. Space is limited; reservations are required to attend in person. Reservations open to the public on Wednesday\, February 21 at 9:00 AM (MT) \nClick here to reserve\nThe Sun Valley Music Festival is pleased to present Upbeat with Alasdair\, featuring pianist Jon Kimura Parker\, Concertmaster Jeremy Constant\, and Principal Cello Amos Yang in conversation with Music Director Alasdair Neale.  Parker will feature prominently in the Festival’s upcoming Winter Season concerts at the Argyros\, March 6-9.  This year’s program\, entitled “The Romance of Brahms\,” is the first time the Festival’s Winter Season will focus on the music of a single composer: Johannes Brahms.  Accordingly\, in this edition of the popular series of talks\, Neale\, Parker\, and two Festival musicians will explore the music of Brahms\, revealing why Brahms continues to be such a beloved composer both for musicians and audiences. \nThe Upbeat with Alasdair series provides a unique\, behind-the-scenes perspective on music and upcoming Festival performances.  It also offers the community a chance to get to know more about Alasdair Neale\, the Festival Orchestra\, and guest artists.  In this case\, the audience will have the opportunity to learn why these four musicians are so excited to offer audiences this in-depth experience of the great composer’s chamber music.  Following the talk\, Maestro Neale\, Jon Kimura Parker\, Jeremy Constant\, and Amos Yang will answer audience questions.  Parker\, who is known for his charisma\, infectious enthusiasm\, and dynamic performances\, was recently named Creative Partner for the Minnesota Orchestra’s Summer at Orchestra Hall.  He also serves as the Artistic Director for the Honens International Piano Competition\, and serves on the faculty of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. \nViewers can enjoy the talk in person at the Community Library lecture hall (415 Spruce Ave\, Ketchum) or broadcast live on the Festival’s website. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. (MT). The presentation begins at 6:30 p.m. (MT). \nReservations are required to attend in person and begin Wednesday\, February 21 at 9:00 a.m. (MT) on the Festival’s website\, or you may contact the Festival office at info@svmusicfestival.org or 208-622-5607. Reserve your seats early\, as space is currently limited in the Library’s lecture hall. Reservations are accepted in the order they are received; reservations made online are received faster. Once reservations are full\, you can join the wait list by contacting the Festival office. Capacity is unlimited for the online broadcast and reservations are not required to watch online. Only in-person attendees will be able to participate in the Q&A session that will take place towards the end of the presentation. \n
