DESCRIPTION:The concert broadcast was available December 8 at 6:30 PM (MT)-December 10 at 6:30 PM (MT). More Festival @ Home concerts will be presented through June\, 2021. Learn more about Festival @ Home concerts from Music Director Alasdair Neale (above) and click here to find upcoming performances.  \n\nGabriel Lefkowitz\, Violin\nJulia Noone\, Violin\nJoen Vasquez\, Viola\nMarylène Gingras-Roy\, Viola\nSi-Yan Darren Li\, Cello \n  \nMozart\nString Quintet No. 4 in G Minor\, K. 516 \n\nAbout the piece\nThe key of G Minor was\, for Mozart\, clearly a home for dark and melancholy moods. It’s the key in The Magic Flute in which Pamina sings: \nAh\, I can feel it\, love’s happiness\nis fled forever!\nSee\, Tamino\, these tears\nflow for you alone\, beloved.\nIf you do not feel love’s yearning\,\nI shall find peace in death \nWriting about the third movement of Mozart’s G Minor quintet\, Petyr Tchaikovsky said “No one has ever known as well how to interpret so exquisitely in music the sense of resigned and inconsolable sorrow.” However\, before you think all is doom and gloom\, you should know that there’s quite a surprise at the end. Not to spoil it\, but the mood definitely changes. Offering his thoughts\, Music Director Alasdair Neale says “In a crowded field\, it is one of Mozart’s greatest achievements\, filled with pathos and joy\, tenderness and turmoil.”

SUMMARY:Festival @ Home—Upbeat with Alasdair: The Big Picture
DESCRIPTION:Share the broadcast with your Facebook friends:\n \nExploring classical music and the human condition\nDoes art imitate life\, or does life imitate art? Thinkers since Aristotle have passionately debated these questions\, and it’s clear that art and the human condition are deeply intertwined. This installment of the Festival @ Home series of online broadcasts explores this connection with an Upbeat with Alasdair talk titled The Big Picture. \nThe admission-free event will offer viewers an engaging perspective on the role that classical music plays in our psyche and motivations\, through unique insight and excerpts from classical music’s most profound works. Here’s how to attend: \nWatch here\, on the Festival’s website (svmusicfestival.org)\, YouTube Channel (youtube.com/c/SunValleyMusicFestival)\, or from The Community Library website (livestream.com/comlib) beginning February 9 at 6:30 PM (MT). The broadcast will also be archived so you may watch anytime or share it with others. SUMMARY:Festival @ Home—San Francisco
DESCRIPTION:The broadcast was available for 48 hours\, beginning March 16. Click here to view other upcoming performances \nShare the broadcast with your Facebook friends:\n \n\n\nBach\nCello Suite No. 6 in D Major\, BWV 1012\nAmos Yang\, Cello \n\nExplore the grandeur\, complexity\, and lively harmonies within one of classical music’s most iconic and profound works\, Bach’s Sixth Cello Suite\, for the next Festival @ Home performance. Although Bach’s suites are now considered by many to be the most significant works in the solo cello repertoire\, they languished in quiet obscurity for over 150 years. In 1890\, cello virtuoso Pablo Casals discovered tattered copies of the suites at a second-hand shop in Barcelona. His appreciation for them grew as he studied them\, leading to his seminal audio recordings in 1936\, which paved the way for their current fame. \nTune in for the premiere on Tuesday\, March 16 at 6:30 PM MT (or on demand for 48 hours afterward) on the Festival website\, YouTube channel (youtube.com/c/SunValleyMusicFestival)\, and Facebook page (facebook.com/SunValleyMusicFestival). Don’t miss this all-new performance of an eminent piece for solo cello\, performed by Sun Valley favorite\, Principal Cello Amos Yang\, from the beautiful Kohl Mansion near San Francisco\, CA. \nWant to get the best broadcast experience?\nClick here for helpful tips\, such as how to watch from your home theater system \n
